Confession time . . . American Idol is my favorite TV indulgence. Ok, maybe behind House and CSI. But where else can you find the drama, the tension, the wearing of your heart on your sleeve like David “Archie” Archuletta each time he finishes a song and waits for Simon’s commentary? Certainly not on Dancing with the Stars, WifeSwap or Living Lohan!
But wait . . . last night AI—I think I can call it that—took drama to new heights pairing boxing footage and building up the competition as a grudge match between DC and DA like they’re a couple of prizefighters. Pop culture doesn’t get much better than this. I don’t know why I’m telling you this. Like you weren’t watching too.
Here are my favorite quips and quotes. Why pay for this stuff, folks, if you can get it for free!
“Pace yourself. Don’t give it all up in the first round.”
“Keep your eyes on the prize.”
“To win you need to love yourself . . . and hate your opponent” (This one may not be 100% right, . . . I got caught up thinking about what it takes to hate your opponent.)
“Train hard—take care of your body . . . cause in a fight, that’s the first thing to go.”
I happen to like that one. This one’s a keeper too:
“Be brave . . . A faint heart never wins the day.”
Never have watched it. EVER. Uck.
