It always starts back in the pool for me. Helps me breathe. Today was my first day back in the pool, back in the gym, back on a real training schedule. We’re starting a long, slow build. Coach Ben has me working on overall fitness and aerobic capacity. We’re looking to build a rock-solid base to help prevent the ol’ crash and burn I finished 2007 with.
I expect this to be a slow, deliberate process. Lots of Yoga with Rodney Yee. God I love that man. I’ve gotten more mileage out of this Yoga for Athletes DVD my friend Pat gave me. I’ve done it so many times, I feel like my nephew Ivan with his car book, where he suckers you into reading a book he knows like the back of his hand. It’s a great thing.
The more I do this, the more I realize I have a knack for overdoing it. Maybe the lesson I’m supposed to learn from imploding has something to do with moderation. Ack. Maybe not. Either way, it’s giving me time to think about pedal stroke, efficiency, and power delivery. Really work on mechanics. Today I did one-legged drills (6 x :30sec each leg) on rollers. The fact that I can do that is just corny. I’m working up to 110rpm doing OLD’s.
Geek-o-rama . . .
If you’re new to rollers, my Gear of the Day review on Bicycling.com will fill you in . . . check it out! cheers!
